  International Foundation Year
Age 17 years old or over
Nationality Available to international and EU students
Academic Completion of secondary school with good grades
Academic IELTS for UKVI* 4.5 overall (minimum 4.0 in writing)


*If you do not need a Tier 4 visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English. The English language entry requirements stated are for information regarding entry to the course. If you require a UK visa to study, depending on the type of visa you need, the English language requirements and valid English tests to satisfy the UK visa criteria may differ.

If you are applying to study in the UK under the Tier 4 student route it may be necessary for you to submit a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as part of your visa application.

Bangladesh Successful completion of High School Certificate with overall grade of 50% with passes in 4 or more subjects such as Maths and Sciences
Bahrain Tawjahiya (secondary school leaving cert) average grade 60% or above, including relevant subjects
China (PRC) Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average of 66% in 4 or more subjects. Or Senior High 3 with 61% average including key subjects.
China (Hong Kong) HKCEE 4 passes (E grades) in academic subjects or HKDSE with minimum 221 in relevant subjects.
Indonesia Successful completion of SMU 2 at grade 6.5 or SMU 3 at grade 6. 4 relevant subjects required.
Iran Successful completion of High School Diploma (3 years) with overall GPA 11/20 including relevant subjects.
Japan Successful completion of High School/Upper Secondary School leaving certificate at 2.0 GPA.
Jordan Successful completion of Tawjihiwith with an average of 50% including relevant subjects.
Kazakhstan Successful completion of year 11/Certificate of Secondary Education with passes in 4 or more subjects.
Korea Korean high school graduation equivalency exam - 60%+ including relevant subjects.
Kuwait Shahadat-al-thanawia-al-a'ama (General Secondary School Leaving Certificate) average grade 60% or above, including relevant subjects
Libya Successful completion of Secondary Education Certificate with average of 60% in 4 or more subjects, including relevant subjects.
Malaysia SPM school: Form 5, Term 2 or Mid-Year transcript - Grades of A- C achieved in 4 subjects to include English and Maths
China (Macau) Successful completion of iGCSE/'O' Levels at Grade C in 4 relevant subjects including English or completion of Form 5 or Senior Middle 3 with an average grade of 60-65%.
Pakistan Successful completion of High Secondary Certificate with overall grade of 50%, with passes in 4 or more subjects. 40% minimum required for relevant subjects such as Maths and Sciences.
Oman Thanawiya Amma (School Leaving Certificate) average grade 60% or above, including relevant subjects
Qatar Successful completion of Thanawaya Aam Qatari with an average passmark of at least 60% in relevant subjects or 5 subjects grades A-D in new QSSC.
Russia (& Chechnya) Successful completion of ATTESTAT/11th grade with passes in 4 or more subjects.
Saudi Arabia Successful completion of Tawjihi with an average of 60% in 4 or more subjects including relevant subjects.
Singapore Secondary 4: Term 2 or Mid-Year transcript - Grades of A- C achieved in 4 subjects to include English and Maths
Taiwan Successful completion of Senior High 3 with an average grade of 55% or Senior High 2 with an average of 60%.
Thailand Successful completion of MAW 5 with an average GPA of 2.0 in relevant subjects including Maths and Sciences.
Turkey Successful completion of Devlet Lise Diploması (High School Completion) - 50% overall including relevant subjects
UAE Successful completion of Tawjihi with an average of 60% in 4 or more subjects, including relevant subjects.
Vietnam Successful completion of Year 12 with average grade of 6.0 and minimum of 6.0 for Maths and Science subjects.

Other Qualifications

  • The Diploma of the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) and the Diploma Programme Course (IB Certificate) - 20 points
  • IGCSE/GCSE/O-Level: 4 passes at A-C in relevant subjects (excluding native language). New grades 9-4 in English and Maths. 
  • UCAS - 80 points

Guardianship

  • All international students under the age of 18 must have a UK-based guardian and provide the guardian's details to Admissions Centre Co-ordinator before arriving in the UK.
  • Students under the age of 18 at the start of their course who already have a UK guardian (e.g. a family member in the UK), and students over the age of 18 at the start of their course do not require UK guardianship.
  • College Guardians has been appointed as the AEGIS accredited UK Guardianship Company for Study Group students. A cost will be incurred for this service and will be charged at confirmation stage. Please visit the College Guardians website for further information.

Under 18s accommodation

  • If you are under 18 years old at the start date of your course, you must live with a designated family member.
  • If you want to live with a family member, you will need to provide an address to the Admissions Centre, and proof of your relationship with the family member, before you can be confirmed on the International Study Centre course.
